Passport identity does not remove transaction requirements
Passport-based signing is available for eligible transactions, not a blanket exemption from other checks. The competent notary or receiving authority may require visa details, proof of signing capacity, company documents, translation or additional verification. Requirements vary by emirate, authority and document.
Notarizing a POA or contract, obtaining MOFA attestation and registering a company are separate procedures. We check the intended use and the applicable route before you commit.
Who this is for
Passport-based notarization helps when:
- Your Emirates ID has expired or is under renewal
- You are on a visit or tourist visa
- You are a foreign investor, shareholder or partner who does not live in the UAE
- You are a company owner or manager abroad who must sign an MOA amendment or resolution
- You need a power of attorney so someone in the UAE can act for you
- You are a non-resident creditor or debtor signing a debt acknowledgment
Services available with a passport
Subject to the transaction type and the receiving authority, we handle:
- All types of power of attorney (general, property, company management, banking, vehicles, courts, debt collection)
- Declarations and affidavits, including debt acknowledgment
- MOA addendum: partner exit, partner entry and share transfer
- Appointment or removal of a manager
- Board, partners' and general assembly minutes and resolutions
- Wills, certified true copies and attested passport copies
If you are outside the UAE
Where the transaction is eligible, investors, owners and shareholders abroad can sign remotely with a passport only. Where it is not, we explain the alternative: signing at a UAE embassy, or with a local notary followed by legalization and UAE MOFA attestation. The UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone is not accepted.
Legal basis
Private notaries in Dubai operate under Dubai Law No. 4 of 2013 regulating the notary public profession. Identity is verified against the original valid passport, and the notary confirms the signer understands the document before notarizing.
